The co-ordinator of a course to help Kerry teenagers drive a tractor says the Government should introduce a tractor driving test.
According to the Irish Farmers Journal, the RSA are considering introducing the measure from 2027.
Over the next month, young people are being offered the chance to develop or improve their tractor driving ability through a course being held in four marts throughout Kerry.
The include Listowel (on June 24th), Tralee (on June 26th), Dingle (on July 3rd) and Castleisland (on July 15th) Marts.
The course was developed by the farm families committee of North East West Kerry Development (NEWKD) over a decade ago.
John Dalton is co-ordinator of the course; he says it was developed to create safety among teenagers who are working with tractors on farms.
He believes the introduction of a tractor driving test is something which should be explored.
