All five Kerry TDs will be called on to assist with making additions to the Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme.

A special meeting was called by Cathaoirleach of the Killarney Municipal District Brendan Cronin, after numerous local councillors cited their frustration at Irish Water’s plans for the scheme.

The long-awaited scheme was approved last week.

However, Killarney councillors were disappointed that households in the Knockataggle, Rathanane roads and GAA clubhouse areas weren’t included.

Irish Water said there wasn't enough demand to include them.

A number of decisions were made at yesterday’s special meeting: Cathaoirleach and Independent councillor Brendan Cronin says a senior official with Irish Water has now been invited to the next MD or full council meeting.

All five Kerry TDs will be asked for their help to include the areas; and a meeting with Minister for Local Government Darragh O’Brien is being sought.

Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae raised the issue with the Taoiseach in the Dáil yesterday. Deputy Healy-Rae said leaving forty houses out of the scheme is ridiculous. He said all streams and rivers in Kilcummin are flowing into the lakes of Killarney. He also said housing developments are being halted because of inferior sewage schemes.

Micheál Martin said the Government will talk to Irish Water to see if something can be done because when infrastructure is put in it needs to be comprehensive.

The Taoiseach said they don’t want to have to go back again in a few years' time to upgrade or redo it.
