Tax cuts for activating vacant properties would do more to increase housing supply than changes to rent pressure zones.
That’s the view of Kerry Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae.
Cabinet will tomorrow consider whether to ease restrictions in rent pressure zones, so rent increases are no longer capped at two per cent, but instead tied to inflation.
Killarney is the only rent pressure zone in Kerry.
Deputy Healy-Rae says incentivising people to activate vacant properties should be examined first.
