A Kerry student has launched a petition to change how the Irish language is taught.
16-year-old Joseph Scanlan, a TY student in Presentation Milltown, has developed a proposal to reform the way Irish is taught and assessed in schools.
His online petition, which makes the case for more communication and less rote learning in the classroom, has already garnered 470 signatures.
He sent his proposal to TDs and Ministers, and has been invited to speak at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Youth as a youth representative.
Joseph says the way people learn Irish, and how it's assessed, is damaging the language.
