A Kerry motor dealer says a new €10 million government grant to boost the use of electric vehicles (EV) is a very positive step.
The scheme aims to encourage drivers to get rid of their petrol and diesel cars and transition to electric vehicles.
Drivers who scrap their petrol or diesel cars to get an electric vehicle will receive a grant of €5,000, as well as €3,500 towards the purchase of the new EV.
The petrol or diesel cars being scrapped must be more than 13 years old, and the scheme opens in July, with 65% of the funding specifically set aside for people living outside the cities.
Tim Kelliher from Kellihers Toyota in Tralee, says the move targeting rural Ireland is particularly positive.
