A Kerry MEP says a message is being sent to Belarusian President Lukashenko that the forced landing of a Ryanair flight was 'not acceptable'.
The US has decided to prepare a number of sanctions against Belarus for diverting the plane to Minsk last weekend to arrest an opposition journalist.
MEP Sean Kelly says the EU is also unanimous in imposing sanctions on the Belarusian government.
