Kerry was the wettest county in Ireland last year.
That’s according to Met Éireann’s annual climate statement for 2025.
It shows, nationally, it the second warmest year since records began in 1900.
The report shows that Valentia Observatory logged 1809.4mm of rain during 2025, the highest amount of rainfall in Ireland, and 10% above its long-term average (LTA).
The South Kerry weather station recorded the most very wet days in the country last year, at 66 – a very wet day is one with 10 or more millimetres of rainfall.
Kerry recorded the lowest annual sunshine at 1,348.0 hours, an average of 3.69 hours of sunshine a day.
Valentia Observatory logged 105 dull days in 2025, the highest in Ireland – a dull day is one with less than half an hour of sunshine.
The mean temperature in the county last year was 11.8 degrees, 0.8 degrees above it’s LTA.
The data from Met Éireann shows, in January about 20% of expected rainfall for the entire month fell in just one day in Valentia.
April was the third warmest on record in the county, while Kerry had it’s sunniest May since 1961.
Meanwhile, the South Kerry weather station logged its wettest September since 2006.
Nationally, the figures show the past four years have been the warmest ever recorded.
