It’s been too long since Kerry has hosted the National Ploughing Championships.
That’s according to the chair of the Kerry branch of the Irish Farmers Association, Jason Fleming.
He says it was last held in the county in the 1980s in Ardfert, and the time is right for Kerry to host it once again.
Mr Fleming says a decision on the location for the 2026 event is due in the coming weeks, but believes this county’s chances should be improved by having a cabinet minister and also Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture
Mr Fleming says traffic infrastructure in Kerry is much improved and the tourism and economic benefits of hosting the ploughing are massive.
