Credit Unions in Kerry are highlighting the importance of community campaigns and financial education.
Today marks the 77th International Credit Union Day, with the theme this year of Cooperation for a Prosperous World.
Head of Marketing at Cara Credit Union, Siobhan Donnelly says financial education is one of the ethos of the credit union.
She says they carry out workshops with schools and communities on money management.
Ms Donnelly believes the pitfalls around the prevalence of buy now, pay later purchase options must be highlighted.
Meanwhile, people are being urged to stop, think and ask, if they receive a suspicious call, text or email.
That’s the advice of Kerry Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Michael Quirke.
He says in the first six months of this year, financial fraud has jumped by 73% compared to the same period in 2024.
Sgt Quirke was involved in an award-winning campaign launched in Kerry, in collaboration with Credit Unions, combating money muling.
Sgt Quirke gives this advise if you receive a suspicious message or link.
