A Kerry county councillor says we are in a litter pandemic.

Independent councillor Charlie Farrelly is calling for an audit of houses which are liable for Local Property Tax to establish how they're disposing of rubbish.

In response to a motion at the recent council meeting by Cllr Farrelly, the council said it introduced bye-laws in 2019 for all households to keep records of waste disposal.

The council added a programme of compliance surveys relating to these bye-laws had started but was paused due to COVID-19, and will recommence when public health guidelines allow.

Cllr Farrelly said this response was not good enough, and said the council needs to establish a taskforce to get on top of the issue.
