A Kerry county councillor is calling for maternity leave to be provided for local authority members.
Independent councillor Maura Healy-Rae says it's a simple fact and reality that there is an allowance for maternity leave in any other profession.
She added the issue is well noted at this point.

Cllr Healy-Rae called on the council to write to the relevant Minister, requesting an allowance for maternity leave be enacted for local authority members, similar to what has been provided to the Oireachtas members.
