Kerry County Council is seeking public feedback on a proposed new public toilet facility in Dingle to replace an older one on the same site.
In addition to the new toilet building, a new public realm area would also be created around the public convenience at Fearann na Cille to enhance the surroundings.
As part of the works, the existing toilet block would be demolished and temporary facilities would be provided to ensure continued service during construction.
The new public lavatory in Dingle is a 'Part 8' proposal (under of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001) meaning Kerry County Council can undertake a public consultation rather than go through the standard planning process.
The council has determined that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or an Appropriate Assessment (AA) is not required because the development is unlikely to have a significant effect on the environment.
However, members of the public have the right to challenge this.
The council is inviting members of the public to make submissions or observations about the proposed development, particularly regarding sustainable development and proper planning.
The details of the proposed works will be available from today (Wednesday, 18th June) until Friday, 18th July at the Dingle Area Office, the Roads and Transportation Department in Tralee, or online.
Submissions may be made in writing, by email, or via the council’s online consultation portal.
All submissions must be clearly marked “Part 8 – Public Convenience Facility in Daingean Uí Chúis/Dingle” and received no later than 4p.m. on Friday, 1st August 2025.
An advisor will be available during the consultation period to assist the public in understanding the plans.
Anyone interested can contact the Roads Department on (066) 7183588.
