A South Kerry councillor who suffered a workplace injury has praised his son and the health service for their response.
Four fingers on Johnny Healy-Rae’s left hand were crushed and broken by a hydraulic ram while working on his farm last Thursday.
His eight-year-old son, Daniel, reacted quickly to release the machinery which was crushing his father’s hand.
Cllr Healy-Rae praised Daniel’s quick action, saying it could’ve been much worse were it not for his intervention.
The independent councillor says the injury came after a lack of concentration.
Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae added it’s important to keep focus at all times when working on a farm.
