A Kerry County Councillor is urging the Government to establish a position which would see the occupant oversee the roll out of COVID-19 vaccines in Ireland.

Fine Gael councillor Jim Finucane says we need one person to take full charge and responsibility for logistics surrounding the delivery of the jabs and who will deal with vaccine manufacturers.

He says we need to follow the lead of US President Joe Biden who has authorised the use of the Defense Production Act to ramp up vaccine supply, and the production of testing kits and masks.

Cllr Finucane says while we are part of the EU, Ireland needs to fight its corner.

The Tralee councillor says we should be looking at the possibility of vaccine production here under licence.
