Kerry councillor calls for Help to Buy Scheme to be adapted

The Help to Buy Scheme needs to be adapted to include first-time buyers who are purchasing second-hand properties.

That’s the view of Independent councillor Jackie Healy Rae.

He is calling on the Government to extend the Help to Buy Scheme beyond December 2021, in the next Budget.

He says it needs to be adapted as it currently only caters for new builds; he says 99% of the people he knows applying don’t qualify as they are buying second-hand homes.

Cllr Healy Rae says there are no new houses on the market in Kerry and there are not enough new developments in this county.
