It says a landscape gardener went into the graveyard last week to carry out works, including weeding and grass cutting, which will bring the graveyard to an acceptable state.

The local authority also liaises with the Burial Ground Committee, while additional help is provided through the Rural Social Scheme.

Bin capacity in Rathass graveyard has also been increased to cut back on littering.

The council says once the new caretaker takes up the role, the ongoing maintenance of the graveyard will be easier to manage.

Meanwhile, a number of new footpaths were installed by Tralee MD crews last week, which will ensure capacity into the future.
