Irish Water says supplies should be returning to most of the customers impacted by a burst in the Central Regional Water Supply today.
However, the utility says the supply may take some time to return to all areas and alternative water supplies will remain in place in affected locations.
Irish Water and Kerry County Council crews have been working since the burst happened on Tuesday on a main Lough Guitane Water Treatment Plant and Sheheree Reservoir.
It left around 50,000 homes and business in Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland, Firies, Farranfore, Castlemaine, Ballymacelligott, Fenit and surrounding areas without water.
The burst has been repaired and crews are now gradually restoring supplies, but supplies may be intermittent while the system fully recovers.
Irish Water has continued to prioritise water supply to hospitals, nursing homes and vaccination centres in the area.
Irish Water says the bank holiday weekend in Kerry is expected to be busy, so it is taking all of the necessary steps to ensure that reservoirs continue to recover in the lead up to the weekend.
