Ireland South MEP calls for the role of care workers to be acknowledged

An Ireland South MEP is calling for care workers to be paid a proper living wage.

Kathleen Funchion made the call after addressing a major conference in Brussels on care workers across the EU.

She said the role of care workers to be acknowledged.

MEP Funchion also hit out at what she called the deregulation and privatisation of the care work sector.

The Sinn Féin representative claimed such core services should be for the public good and not private profit.
