The legacy of an inspiring teenager from Tralee who sadly passed away earlier this year is being celebrated by his GAA club and community.
18-year-old Luke Silles, who played with Ballymac, sadly passed away in May after he got into difficulty while swimming off in Fenit.
This weekend, Ballymac GAA will wear special jerseys in memory of Luke Silles when they tog out for the Munster final.
Ballygarry Estate Hotel and Spa along with Luke’s parents Paula and Tony Silles have sponsored two sets of Luke Silles memorial jerseys; his name is stitched on each jersey under the club’s crest.
They say this is a tribute to a cherished member of their community whose energy and passion continue to inspire them all.
The Ballymacelligott GAA Senior team will face Buttevant GAA (Cork) in the AIB Munster Club Junior Football Championship Final this Saturday.
These jerseys will be worn by the Ballymac Senior Men’s Team for this match and over the coming years, as a reflection of the team’s dedication but also the lasting legacy of Luke.
Proprietor of Ballygarry Estate Pádraig McGillicuddy says this is a fitting way to remember Luke.
Tony Silles says his son Luke loved playing and being part of Ballymac GAA, and seeing everyone come together like this means everything to them.
