The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) will hold a lunch-time protest in southwest Kerry today.
The industrial action concerns a pay dispute involving nurses at Valentia Community Hospital.
INMO official for Valentia Community Hospital, Kathryn Courtney, says staff at the hospital took pay cuts during the financial crisis.
They claim the pay of Valentia Community Hospital nurses has not been restored or increased since, unlike their public service counterparts.
The INMO official alleges the hospital’s board of management has stated the current pay of staff will not increase.
The union claims this pay inequity creates significant challenges for staff recruitment and retention, and risks continuity of care at the 24-bed residential care facility for older adults.
They argue nurses at Valentia Community Hospital deliver the same quality of care as HSE nurses but receive just a fraction of the remuneration.
Radio Kerry News has contacted Valentia Community Hospital for comment.
