The greater Killarney area has become a low smoke zone. As of midnight, smoky coal cannot be sold, marketed, distributed or burned within the area.

As of midnight, smoky coal cannot be sold, marketed, distributed or burned within the area.

The EPA says the burning of smoky coal releases toxic emissions and low smoke fuel emits less black smoke than comparable fuels.

From last night, bituminous coal, which is often marketed as Polish Coal, cannot be burned or sold within the greater Killarney area.

Tralee has been a low smoke zone for over 20 years.
