Gardaí in Listowel have written to all secondary schools in North Kerry and West Limerick, asking them to warn parents about underage drinking at Listowel Races.
Teenagers typically gather in large number on the Friday of the September meeting - which starts next week - and many have been found drinking alcohol at the racecourse.
In 2018, 18 young people were arrested for alcohol-related offences at Listowel Races, but this number has been steadily falling in recent years.
Gardaí are meeting with publicans this week to ensure that no-one underage is served alcohol at the racecourse, and they also plan to carry out spot-checks on buses going to and from Listowel.
