Kerry County Council has been awarded funding to complete the construction of 56 new social homes in this county over the next two years.
The funding is part of an €111 million announcement by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne, for 82 social housing projects nationwide to provide over 1,300 new-builds.
As well as this, Kerry County Council has been allocated €3.5 million for the second-hand social housing acquisitions programme.
Under this programme, the council can use this funding to buy homes for tenants at risk of becoming homeless when their rental property is put up for sale, or to house older people or people with a disability.
Minister for Disability, Children and Equality, Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley, and Kerry Fianna Fáil Deputy Michael Cahill have welcomed the announcement.
