Former Kerry councillor says re-establishment of town councils would be good for democracy

A former Kerry County Councillor believes the abolition of town councils has made it harder for political parties to recruit new candidates.

Sean Counihan, who's also a former Killarney Town Councillor, welcomed the Taoiseach's comments that he wants to re-establish town councils within three years.

The programme for government includes a commitment to examine the re-establishment of town councils, which were abolished 11 years ago.
