Fine Gael councillor Aoife Thornton is the new Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District.
Her party colleague, Michael Foley has been elected Leas Cathaoirleach.
Councillor Thornton takes over from outgoing Cathaoirleach and fellow party member, Mike Kennelly.

Her priorities include the development of wastewater treatments systems to allow villages to thrive, and the development of housing for the elderly.
She’s also calling for a rates waiver for independent businesses who she says are crippled by electricity costs.
