Fewer than 250 new homes have been commenced in Kerry this year.
Data from the Department of Housing shows that construction has begun on fewer homes this year in Kerry than any year since 2016.
239 new homes have been commenced in Kerry up to the end of November this year.
163 of these are one-off houses, 25 are apartments, and 51 are part of larger housing schemes.
It’s the lowest number of commencements for the first eleven months of any year since 2016.
At the same point in 2024, 922 homes had been commenced in Kerry; almost four times this year’s figure.
There were 12 commencement notices lodged in Kerry in November, meaning those units should be started within four weeks.
It comes as the Central Bank has warned the government will miss its housing targets based on current projections of house completions.
