An estimated 400 households in Kerry remain in mortgage arrears, with many dating back to between 2008 and 2010.
A growing number of those affected are aged between 60 and 75.
CEO of Irish Homes, Stephen Curtis says there is a cohort of older borrowers in Kerry who have been living with this burden for years, often in silence.
He says many are now at a stage in life where they can no longer work, yet they remain tied to mortgage debt that has long since become unsustainable”.
He says it was also found that adult children are increasingly stepping in to try to resolve such situations.
