Kerry County Council will receive almost €830,000 in funding to upgrade social housing stock.
It's part of the €23 million from the Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government for local authorities to carry out adaptations, extensions and other improvements to their existing stock of social housing.
The grants will address the needs of older people and people with a disability, and provide modifications to relieve overcrowding.
The Disabled Persons Grant will ensure homes are adapted to allow older people and those with disabilities to continue living independently.
The funding also extends to the Improvement Works in Lieu scheme which allows works to be carried out on a privately owned house where the applicant has been approved for social housing.
Under both schemes, department funding meets 90% of the cost of the works in each property, with Kerry County Council providing the remaining 10%.
The funding allocation for Kerry has been welcomed by Minister for Children Norma Foley, fellow Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Michael Healy-Rae, Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae, and Senator Mike Kennelly.
