A documentary by Radio Kerry broadcaster Jerry O’Sullivan has won a prestigious international award at the New York Festivals Radio Awards.
Gloryhunter: Kerry’s Indian Killer won a Silver Award in the Radio History Documentary category.
The documentary tells the story of Kerry-born Patrick Edward O’Connor, who, as a colonel in the US Army, led the largest massacre of Native Americans in US history at Bear River in 1863.
The New York Festivals Radio Awards attract global entries from broadcasters and podcasters, including the BBC, NPR, Al Jazeera, and Netflix.
They are regarded as among the industry’s most prestigious honours.
The New York Festivals Grand Jury, a panel of industry professionals, selected the winners, judging entries on production, creativity, content, direction, writing, and audience impact.
The winners were announced at the New York Festivals 2025 Storytellers Gala virtual event last night.
Gloryhunter was part-funded by Coimisiún na Meán under the Sound and Vision broadcasting scheme.
