Priests across Kerry should offer the hand of friendship to members of the Traveller community.
That’s the view of Richard O’Brien from Killarney, who’s helped start an initiative to get more Travellers involved in parish life, with support from the Diocese of Kerry.
Mr O’Brien, who is a member of the Traveller community, says historical prejudice by some Catholics has resulted in Travellers not being part of church activities.

He has written to all the Bishops of Ireland and the Vatican, and is now helping with measures by the Diocese of Kerry to reach out to members of the Traveller community to get them more involved.
Mr O’Brien says he is sure that Travellers will get involved if the parish reaches out to them.
