The number of women seeking help due to domestic violence and coercive control continued to increase this year.
Adapt Kerry women’s refuge has helped over 510 women this year seeking support. This is up from over 480 last year and 300 in 2023.
Adapt Kerry had 51 admissions this year with 69 children also accommodated at its refuge in Tralee.
The charity helps women to leave abusive relationships and seek recourse through the courts as well as finding alternate accommodation for those who take the decision to leave.
The refuge was full on 155 occasions during the year which meant they could not accommodate requests for help.
Adapt have been approved funding for a multi million euro extension in Tralee and will being going for planning early in the new year according to General manager Catherine Casey.
