Social housing could be developed within Tralee shopping arcade.

That's according to councillor Johnnie Wall who called for a public/private partnership to be set up to acquire the building when funding is available.

The Fianna Fáil councillor said apartments like those at Tobar Naofa could be developed on the site.

Kerry County Council says it is currently examining brown field sites in Tralee for social housing and a scheme is being developed for the Island of Geese site.

The local authority says Tralee Shopping Arcade is not being considered for residential development as it is more suitably positioned for economic activities.
