A Fianna Fáil councillor says the art of writing a letter and the history around post boxes must be protected.
Cathaoirleach of the Castleisland MD Fionnán Fitzgerald was speaking at the recent municipal district meeting.
He raised a motion to write to An Post to ask them to speed up the replacement of faulty public letter boxes.
Cllr Fitzgerald said that modern public post boxes aren’t a patch compared to the ones of old, which he said were of great historical value and lasted far longer.
He believes that letter writing has fallen by the wayside in recent years; adding this art, and history around green and red letter boxes must be protected.
The motion was seconded by independent councillor Charlie Farrelly.
