Kerry County Council has been urged to take action on a West Kerry route described as being like an old roman road.
Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan made the plea at the recent meeting of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD.
He sought for structural boundary works to be carried on sections of the road network on the Maherees, to prevent sand coverage of the route.
The council responded that no such works could be undertaken given its location to the Special Area of Conservation.
However, it stated this route is monitored and maintenance is carried out to remove sand off the road.
Cllr Brosnan replied that works there are intermittent and the sand returns to the road quickly, he urged for a kerb or fence be installed to reduce sand fall.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor Fionnán Fitzgerald.
