A West Kerry councillor is urging for a new NPWS base to be developed in the area.
Sinn Féin’s Robert Brosnan tabled the motion at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.
He says Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara Ciarraí was launched two years ago and there will be a need for a base for park rangers in the region.
Cllr Brosnan stated there is ample and idle state-owned land across from the old Garda barracks in Clahane.
He believes the development of this land, located beside the Owenmore River, would provide employment and boost the local economy.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor, Tommy Griffin.
