Kerry County Council has been urged to act quickly to commemorate the centenary of the first non-stop transatlantic flight.
Fianna Fáil councillor Tommy Cahill made the plea to ensure the county can celebrate the seminal moment in history.
In 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew the Spirit of St. Louis, solo, from New York to Paris; Kerry was his first sighting of Europe.
A film of the journey was released by Warner Brothers in 1957, with some scenes shot in Portmagee.
Cllr Cahill says to host an event, rights will need to be secured from the company, and also from the US Smithsonian Institution, where the plane is on display.
He appealed to the council to act now to ensure the 100th Anniversary can be marked in Kerry.
