There are calls for the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to order a nationwide review of mental health services for children following the revelation that some young people in South Kerry received excessive medication.

Raising the issue in the Dáil yesterday, Kerry TD Pa Daly asked if a lack of funding and services had to led to a rush to chemical intervention.

The Sinn Féin TD also called on the HSE to provide additional resources immediately to help families affected.

The independent review of the South Kerry cases is expected to take four months.

Labour leader, Alan Kelly says this is too long.
