There are calls for no fault evictions to be banned in Ireland following claims they have increased in recent months.
Labour Party spokesperson on housing, Deputy Conor Sheehan from Limerick was reacting to the upcoming mass eviction of 34 people from a Killarney housing estate.
Their landlord, the Cypriot property company, Xerico Ltd, owns 14 houses in Loreto Chapel Estate and has issued eviction notices to them all.
This is entirely legal.
Deputy Conor Sheehan wants Kerry County Council to buy the 14 properties so that the tenants can stay in their community.
He believes that this summer's RTB Amendment Bill was rushed through the Dáil and has created these problems:
