Business man Denis O’Brien is among the speakers lined up for the ninth annual Valentia lecture.
The event will take place on July 17th and 18th at the historic cable station on Valentia Island.
This year’s Valentia lecture will see a new format introduced and keynote speakers will discuss a range of topics, from history to arts and media, to politics, technology and business.
Business man Denis O’Brien, historian Professor Jane Ohlmeyer of Trinity College Dublin, journalist Mick Clifford and Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae are confirmed to speak at the event.
There will also be a panel discussion with four of Ireland’s future leaders, all in their 30’s, the same age as Cyrus Field, the entrepreneur who transformed the world when he led the transatlantic cable project in the late 1800s.
This year’s lecture will once again feature an online ‘link-up’ with Hearts Content in Newfoundland Canada, honouring the connection between the two places first established by the undersea transatlantic telegraph cable back in 1858.
