Boy dies after collision with tractor in Beaufort

A boy has died after being hit by a tractor in mid-Kerry.

It happened in Beaufort last night.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at Beaufort Bridge at around 7.30 last night.

The boy who had been walking in the area at the time was hit by the tractor and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to University Hospital Kerry where a post mortem will be carried out.

The driver of the tractor - a man aged in his 20's - wasn't hurt in the collision.

The road has been closed and will be examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators today.

Local diversions are in place; if you're travelling to Killarney, you'll be diverted onto the Milltown road via the Golden Nugget. If you're driving towards Killorglin, the diversion will be via the Gap of Dunloe.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and especially want to hear from anyone in the Beaufort Bridge between 7 and 7.45 pm last night who may have camera footage
