Gardaí are reporting that the body of a missing Kerry man has been found in woodland near his farm near Sneem within the past 90 minutes.
72-year-old Jeremiah Downing was reported missing after being last seen on the N70 at around 5pm on New Year’s Eve.
Over the past few days searches had been taking place to locate Mr Downing and they involved Gardaí, the Iveragh Coastguard and Derrynane CRBI as well as local volunteers.
A renewed appeal for information was issued by Gardaí just after midday today and it urged farmers and landowners near Sneem to check sheds and outbuildings.
Gardaí stated due to a recent medical incident, they and Jeremiah’s family were very concerned for his well-being.
Searches continued today and after lunchtime the body was discovered in woodland near Mr Downing's farm near Sneem.
The body has been taken to UHK for a post mortem examination.
Gardaí have thanked local volunteers, the coastguard and civil defence for their help in finding Mr Downing.
