Almost 630 remote audits were carried out on Kerry farms since the start of May.

Bord Bia, the body that oversees the quality assurance and sustainability schemes in the dairy, beef and lamb sectors, suspended on-farm inspections due to COVID-19.

On-farm visits are now getting underway again but farmers will continue to have the option to avail of a remote audit.

Bord Bia's Sustainable Quality Assurance Manager, Mick Houlihan, says their helpdesk, which is based in Castleisland, was a crucial part of rolling out the remote auditing system:

Meanwhile, Bord Bia says outbreaks of COVID-19 in some meat plants is a cause for concern.
