A new plan to help drive and sustain tourism in Killarney is being launched today.
The Killarney Destination and Experience Development Plan is aiming to enhance the way in which visitors experience Killarney town.
CEO of Fáilte Ireland Paul Kelly says the main challenge of the plan is to extend the tourist season in Killarney.
He says activities, festivals and events will be a key element in ensuring the town is busier for longer periods in the year.
Mr Kelly says the plan focuses on Killarney providing a positive visitor experience over the next five years:
Mr Kelly says the legislation to allow Fáilte Ireland to oversee a register of short-term let properties, including Airbnb, is still being prepared.
He says one of the main reasons for the current staff shortages in the hospitality sector is due to the fact they can’t find anywhere to live.
Mr Kelly hopes the legislation will find the right balance between tourist and residential accommodation:
