82 social homes in Kerry were reactivated from vacancy last year.
That’s according to figures published by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne.
Nationally over 2,350 (2,357) vacant social homes were reactivated last year under the Voids Programme.
The Voids Programme provides funding to local authorities to refurbish homes for re-letting.
This initiative aims to tackle vacancy and dereliction to alleviate the shortage of housing.
Kerry County Council has moved to a planned maintenance model which leads to quicker repairs, continuous use, and faster re-letting of social homes.
Over the past decade, 878 homes in Kerry have been brought back into use under the Voids Programme.
Since 2020, the government has spent nearly €190 million nationwide, bringing more than 13,000 homes back into use.
This is more than half (51%) of the homes returned over the lifetime of the programme since 2014.
In total over 25,600 (25,672) vacant homes have been reactivated.
