30 farmers sought for sustainability project on Dingle Peninsula
Dingle Creativity and Innovation Hub has been awarded €220,000 EU Horizon 2020 funding to enable West Kerry to participate as a Sustainable Innovation Pilot (SIP) for the next three years. This will see the roll-out of sensor technology to thirty farms to achieve greater carbon, cost and labour efficiency. Increased carbon efficiency will be achieved by extending the grazing season. 30 farmers are being sought to take part in a Sustainable Innovation Project on the Dingle Peninsula.

The project is a collaboration between farmers, the Dingle Hub, Teagasc, Kerry Agribusiness, the IFA and Dingle based technology company, Net Feasa.

It aims to lead and support a move towards more sustainable farming, reduce costs and grow margins.

Dairy, beef or sheep farmers who are selected will be asked to trial on-farm sensor technology.

The sensors, which measure milk production, grass management, weather, soil moisture and slurry production, have already been used on a pilot basis on six farms.

The closing date for applications is July 23rd and more information can be found here
