Kerry Unites to Wish Killarney’s Jessie Buckley Success at the Oscars
This weekend, Radio Kerry is celebrating one of our own.
Killarney actress Jessie Buckley will attend the Academy Awards on March 15th with a Best Actress nomination for her role in Hamnet — a moment of immense pride not just for Kerry, but for Ireland.
To mark the occasion, Radio Kerry will dedicate the weekend to celebrating Jessie’s remarkable journey and the community that helped shape it.
From her early days performing in Killarney to international acclaim on stage and screen, Jessie’s success story is one that resonates deeply across the county. Her nomination represents not just personal achievement, but a moment of pride for a community that has long nurtured creativity, music, theatre and storytelling.
A County-Wide Show of Support
As part of the Jessie Buckley Weekend, listeners across Kerry were invited to send their creative good-luck wishes to Jessie in any format they wished.
And they certainly delivered.
Submissions included audio messages, songs, artwork, videos, banners and imaginative tributes of all kinds — a wonderful reflection of the creativity and warmth of people across the county.
The initiative was created to give people the opportunity to express their pride in Jessie while also celebrating the strong creative spirit that exists throughout Kerry.
Among the entries received were mixed-media artworks, heartfelt messages from listeners and playful tributes capturing the excitement surrounding Oscars weekend.
All entries are in with a chance of winning a €1,000 prize for the most creative message of support, with the winner to be announced on Radio Kerry.
Supporting Creativity, Education and Opportunity
The Jessie Buckley Weekend initiative has been supported by a number of organisations committed to encouraging creativity and opportunity for people across the county.

Radio Kerry is also pleased to acknowledge the support of the National Tertiary Office and Kerry College, whose work is helping to create new pathways to education and career opportunities for learners across Kerry and beyond.
Their partnership in this initiative reflects a shared belief in the power of education, creativity and ambition — values that are very much reflected in Jessie Buckley’s own journey from a young performer in Killarney to international recognition on stage and screen.
A County that Celebrates the Arts
Radio Kerry also acknowledges the important role played by Kerry County Council, particularly its Arts Office and Film Office, in fostering a vibrant creative culture throughout the county.

Jessie Buckley’s success on the world stage is a powerful reminder of the talent that exists here and the importance of supporting the arts at a local level.
Proud of Jessie
For many in Kerry, Jessie Buckley’s nomination feels a little like when a Kerry team runs out in Croke Park — a moment when the whole county comes together in support.
Through interviews, listener contributions and a weekend of special programming, Radio Kerry’s Jessie Buckley Weekend is simply our way of saying what the entire county is thinking:
Jessie, we are incredibly proud of you — and we wish you every success on Oscars night.
