Jessie Buckley: History-Maker – March 16th, 2026

Last night, the 98th Academy Oscar Awards took place with Killarney's Jessie Buckley making history by becoming the first Irish woman to win Best Actress for her role as Agnes in Hamlet.

Treasa spoke to her cousin and presenter of the Afternoon Show, Brendan Fuller and Henry McKean of Newstalk who is currently in LA.

The winners of the Jessie Buckley competition organised by Radio Kerry in partnership with the National Tertiary Office, and partners MTU and Kerry County Council were also announced. The €1,000 prize was won by Knocknagree National School.

Labour councillor Marie Moloney is a member of Killarney Musical Society for almost 40 years and knew Jessie since childhood when she became involved with the group.
