The Irish UN peacekeepers involved in the Siege of Jadotville in the Congo in 1961 are to be awarded medals of courage. They were led by the late Commandant Patrick Quinlan from South Kerry and despite being heavily outnumbered in the siege, no Irish soldier was killed. But when they returned home, they were treated as cowards. Tadhg Quinn from Abbeyfeale was in Jadotville.
