Celebrating inclusive education and community spirit in South Kerry
Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) was delighted to welcome Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee TD, to Tahilla Community National School today for the official opening of the school following its transfer to Kerry ETB patronage.
The event marked an important milestone for the small rural school, which became part of the Community National School network, joining a growing number of multi-denominational, state-supported primary schools across Ireland.
During the ceremony, Minister McEntee met pupils, staff, and members of the local community before delivering a short address and unveiling a commemorative plaque. The celebration featured music performed by pupils and the presentation of a gift to the Minister, reflecting the strong sense of community and creativity at the heart of the school.
Minister McEntee said: “This is a historic day. It represents an important moment of renewal which honours the past, embraces the present and looks with confidence to the future of education. I want to commend the staff and principal of Tahilla Community National School for th

Hello Joe,
Here are two shots I took in this awful weather. I don’t know if they’re any good or not.
-
Derrynane Abbey graveyard in the very early morning fog — it was much more atmospheric than the photo shows. I can never seem to get those shots right.

-
A spur-of-the-moment phone shot on the way home from Kenmare yesterday evening. I thought the light would suit a B&W scene.
All the best,
Stephen O’Shea

Good morning Joe and Domnick — almost late as usual! 😀
My three photos:
-
Lower Lake, Killarney (26th) — using leading lines on my way home.
-
Dingle — using the boats and my lens to pull the photo back from the other side of the pier.
-
A random gate near Castleisland — taken while I was on a phone call.
Thanks for looking. Have a good weekend.

Hi Joe and Dominic,
Here are my three photos for the November competition:
-
"Making the Most" of the fine day — chilling at Annascaul Lake, Co. Kerry.
-
A gentleman in Liverpool — met him on a photography trip with Killarney Camera Club. We had a great conversation about cameras, lenses and general photography.
-
"Cara" from the USA — making the most of her time at Kilmalkedar Church, west of Dingle, after her parents’ 10-year wedding vow renewal. She has just come through the “Eye of the Needle” — it is said that anyone who can fit through this narrow opening will go to heaven!
Best regards,
Noel O’Neill

Hi Joe and Domnick,
Attached are my photos for this month — Making the Most of It:
-
Thatcher re-doing the roof of Deenagh Lodge on a lovely day.
-
Bird feeder growing grass — the wet weather meant the birds didn’t eat the wet seeds, and they sprouted.
-
Nohoval Graveyard, Ballymacelligott — taken on a wet Sunday in November.
Happy Christmas Domnick, and to you too Joe as you celebrate your first Christmas with your little boy.
Regards,
Siobhan O’Connor

Good morning Joe & Dominic.
As 2025 draws to a close, I would like to wish you both and your families a very Happy Christmas.
I have just one photo this month:
A walk on Waterville Beach on November 17th — such a wonderful sight at this time of year; surely a trip to Tír na nÓg.

An Ghaeltacht are certainly making the most of it these days — having won the County Intermediate Championship and the West Kerry Championship, and now competing in the Munster Final this weekend.
The images show scenes of great joy and jubilation moments after Gaeltacht defeated Castlegregory in the West Kerry Final, best expressed in the faces of the young children.
I love the last image of the three little boys closely watching the presentation ceremony and soaking it all up. Their innocent faces convey awe, wonder and delight. No doubt they are inspired and can’t wait for the chance to repeat the heroics of the big boys. It reminds one of the old saying “success breeds success.” Where would we be without sport and the GAA?
