A Castlemaine farmer has called for wild goats in the area to be controlled.

Dan Breen said the number of wild goats in the locality has been growing year on year. The goats descended from a domesticated breed.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service says it’s only responsible for animals in national parks and says the Department of Agriculture is responsible for dealing with the issue.

However, the Department of Agriculture says it’s responsible for farmed animals and wild goats come under the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Mr Breen said he’s not looking for the animals to be destroyed but for their breeding to be controlled.

He said they are a disease threat to his herd as well as a danger on the roads.
